Australian Government Investigating For Any Of Gaddafi’s Assets In The Country
As per recent reports Australia’s Government has claimed that it is investigating whether Colonel Gaddafi or any family members hold assets in Australia. Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd said that the investigation has been made possible only by United Nations vote to impose sanctions on Libya. The sanctions were passed unanimously.
The Security Council has voted unanimously to impose an arms embargo on Libya, freeze any assets that Colonel Gaddafi or any member from his immediate family may own in the country and impose a travel ban on them. The 192 member states will have to enforce the sanctions.
The assets of Colonel Gaddafi and his family have already been frozen in UK and the Australian Government will do the same if any assets are located.
Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd said while being interviewed that “I’m not advised as to whether there are such assets or not but such an examination is now underway under the appropriate head of power”.
Australian government also mentioned that they are targeting the regime in Libya and not the people of the country.
