Auto Workshop Holds Itself Guilty Of Causing Freak Accident
An automotive workshop has held itself guilty of causing a freak accident on road. A wheel from the truck running on the road came loose. A passenger on the bus got killed.
The mishap took place on Aukland’s Southern Motorway this year. Countless Automotive Diesel Repair Limited pleaded guilty to one charge which was laid by the Department of Labor at Puke ohe District Court yesterday.
The company has been charged with failing to take all the practical steps which were supposed to ensure that the actions and inactions of an employee did not affect another person. Sentencing has been scheduled to take place on Nov 29, 2010.
The passenger who died was a 24-year old Vietnamese. He got hit by the 80kg truck wheel when it slammed through the front window of the bus in January this year. He died the next day when his life support system was turned off at Middlemore Hospital.
Police has said at the time they would not be prosecuting the driver or any other staff member of the truck. The case has been referred to the Department of Labor. It was understood police initially considered a manslaughter charge. However, it decided against the after legal advice.
