London: An anonymous Briton bought a Bapu Gandhi letter for £11,400 at an auction in London on Tuesday evening. The auctioneers confirmed “it is one of the most important Bapu letters as it contains ‘passive resistance’ against the British rule and Bapu urge for Hindu-Muslim unity.”

Gandhi wrote the letter on December 15, 1919 and was earlier sold at £8,000-10,000.

The letter of Gandhi Ji was very inspirational. The Mahatma wrote “I venture to claim that I have rendered a service of the highest order by advising the Mohamedans of India to express their sentiments in a restrained manner and by advising the Hindus to make common cause with them,”

Gandhi declared some bitter truth and explained his attitude towards the same. Also, he explained actions against British rule and his relation to the Khilafat movement.  In his letter Gandhi also explained his concept satyagrahis, ahimsa and satya.  The letter was addressing to Lahore and was answer to English journalist-novelist Edmund Candler’s questions.
