Beware: Saturated Fat Can Lower Your Sperm Count
There is a big contradiction found between the recent study done by Jill Attaman and the study from Harvard Medical School regarding saturated fat. According to the study from Harvard medical school in the US, a diet that is rich in saturated fat such as omega 3 and omega 6 is good for health and can lead to healthy and active sperm. But the recent research reveals that men who consume lots of saturated and mono-unsaturated fat are likely to suffer from a lower sperm count problem.
Saturated fat is found in sausage, butter, dairy products and processed bacon. Mono-unsaturated fat is in food items such as almond, olive oil, Avocado, olives, pumpkin kernels etc.
The researchers have reached into the decision after months of study. They have divided a group of men into three, according to their intake of saturated fat. Jill Attaman said that the group of men with highest saturated fat intake had 41% lower sperm than the group with least intake.
The report was presented by Jill at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine Conference in Denver.
He claimed that “We were able to demonstrate that for men who took in higher amounts of saturated and mono-unsaturated fat, there was an association with decreased sperm concentration”. Polyunsaturated fat that is found in fish primarily is associated with improved sperm morphology and motility, he said.
