California Teenagers Will Get Vaccination for Whooping Cough

A new law in California will make it necessary for students from grades 7 to 12 to get vaccination for prevention of disease. In California, around 9000 cases of infection were noticed last year making the state one of the biggest victim of cough outbreak in 60 years.
According to health officials, this outbreak led to ten cases of infant death. Now, students on the very first day at school will have to show the documentation to prove that they are properly vaccinated for DPT.
“While everyone is taking summer vacation pertussis is not taking that vacation,” said Dr. John Talarico, immunization branch chief with the California Department of Public Health.
Cough infects and grips around 40 to 50 million people per years and responsible for death of around 300,000 (particularly children) in developing countries.
In developed countries also, there are outbreaks and the one which occurred in California is one of the biggest one in US , stated Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
This year till now, California has witnessed around 1400 cases. This is the reason it has made a law for vaccination of children entering kindergarten with some exceptions only including religious and some other reasons.
“We’ve all been very anxious we want people to be able to meet the requirement,” said Dr. Glennah Trochet, the Sacramento County public health officer. “We believe it’s necessary given the huge epidemic California has incurred.”
