The Canon Media Awards In Auckland Honor Media Personalities

The Canon Media Awards were held at an attractive ceremony on Friday in Auckland. The prestigious title of the Canon Newspaper of the Year was won by The New Zealand Herald.

Media from different parts of the country celebrated at these annual awards. Those working in online and print media were recognized.

The New Zealand Herald also bagged the Newspaper of the Year (having circulation of more than 30,000) and Best Website awards. Queenstown’s newspaper Mountain Scene grabbed the Community Newspaper of the Year award.

The Weekend Herald won the Weekly Newspaper of the Year award. The Southland Times won the Newspaper of the Year (having circulation till 30,000). Best Newsstand Magazine award was won by North & South.

Canon New Zealand’s Country Manager, Mike Johnston, remarked, “The Canon Media Awards is a fantastic opportunity to showcase New Zealand’s media talent.”

He added, “Canon is delighted be both sponsor and part of this event and celebrates all the great efforts of the New Zealand print and online media.”

He pointed that it was a tough year for media working in New Zealand. He felt these awards were a chance of reflecting the experience of media and acknowledging the passionate media persons who deliver news sometimes in extraordinary circumstances.

The Dominion Post’s Phil Kitchin was chosen senior Reporter of the Year. He was given the Canon Reporter Cup. Junior Reporter of the Year award was won by The Nelson Mail’s Charles Anderson.

Phil Taylor, writer, grabbed two awards for crime and business stories. The arts feature award was won by Chris Barton. Tony Wall from the Sunday Star-Times was chosen the best feature writer.
