Tokyo: The Tokyo power is concerned about the growing opposition of public about the worst nuclear disaster in the past 25 years. TEPCO shareholders will be in first annual meet since crisis that wiped about 36 billion dollar of market value of utility.

The shareholders of Kyushu electric power co and chubu electric power co have also voted down several proposals against nuclear power.

The votes accounted for 54 percent of installed capacity of nuclear power in japan before march 11 disaster. This shows the reliance of japan on atomic energy even with growth of opposition.

Jeff Kingston, HOD of the department of Asian studies at temple university, Tokyo said, “Everybody in Japan has a stake in the country’s energy future, even if they don’t own a stake in a power company.” He further said, “trying as desperately as possible to circle the wagons, marginalize public opinion and proceed with business as usual”

Nishizawa 60 said, “Each asset needs to be sold at the best time and in the best way,”

The annual import of TEPCO is 20 million metric tons of LNG. This contributes to 28 percent of overall imports of Japan. It is as per data compiled by finance ministry and TEPCO. Tepco will package headquarters building as part of efforts of fund raising. The value of the building is estimated at 481 million USD.

Taakaki matsui, 27 year old shareholder and engineer at TEPCO said, “I was against the proposal to withdraw from nuclear power.” He further said,“Tepco needs nuclear power to keep supply and demand balanced.”

As many as 50 thousand shareholders are displaced because of catastrophe due to radiation leaks in air, soil and sea.

The statement read, “We can’t give up on this – it’s too important,” said Hisataka Yamasaki, a member of the shareholders group that brought the proposal against nuclear power at Tepco’s meeting yesterday.

“Everybody knew that Dai-Ichi was at risk from an earthquake and tsunami. It shows how hard it is to change the government’s view of nuclear that the company wasn’t forced to make the proper preparations.”

Japan has suffered immensely because of the nuclear disaster in some months and there is no doubt about it.
