Former Computer Hacker And WikiLeaks Founder Assange Appeals Against Extradition

Julian Assange the 39 year old Australian, founder of WikiLeaks said on Thursday that he is ready to fight a legal battle against the British judge’s ruling of extradition to Sweden for rape allegations against him.

Lawyers representing Assange said they would appeal against Judge Howard Riddle’s decision to reject defence arguments and would appeal for a fair trial for Assange.

Assange has criticized the European system which detained him in December over claims that he sexually abused two women in Sweden. Speaking after the hearing at Belmarsh Magistrates’ Court in London, he said “It is a result of the European Arrest Warrant system run amok. There was no consideration during this entire process as to the merits of the allegations against me,”

The hearing was attended by socialite Jemima Khan and rights campaigner Bianca Jagger also attended the hearing and several supporters demonstrated outside the court.

The former computer hacker has seven days to appeal and failing to do so he will be extradited to Sweden within 10 days of the expiry of the appeals period.
