Cycling: A Major Cause of Heart Attack

London: Cycling was considered to be beneficial but a new study has refuted this. The study has revealed that it is one of the biggest triggers of heart attacks.
Researchers observed 36 pieces of research and exhibited three “final straws” of triggering heart attack. These are cycling, commuting and spending time in traffic. Of these three, cycling is more dangerous because cyclists are exposed to heavy air pollution.
“A lot of other factors are contributing to the overall risk; it’s a complex mix,” a newspaper quoted him as saying.
Other reasons stated for heart attacks include air pollution, sexual activity, negative emotions, traffic, heavy meal and physical exertion.
According to the research led by Dr Tim Nawrot from Hasselt University of Belgium, cocaine intake increases the risk of heart attack 23 times. In contrast, air pollution increases the danger by 5 percent.
Judy O’Sullivan, senior cardiac nurse at the British Heart Foundation suggested people to continue outdoor activities like cycling, walking and running because benefits of these activities far outweigh their risks.
