Datawind Announces Contest For Students
Datawind, the makers of the world’s cheapest tablet Aakash have now come up with a contest for the students wherein their best applications will be adopted in Ubislate, the commercial version of Aakash, to be launched next year. It is said that the top 5 students who get their applications selected will be awarded Rs 1 Lakh each. Earlier, in the year Datawind has also announced that the company plans to introduce new features in the tablet every six months.
According to Suneet Singh Tuli, chief executive of Datawind, the reason behind such contest is to make use of the unconventional thinking of the students. He feels that this is a win-win situation for both- the company and the students, as the company will get useful services to provide to its user and for the students, who will get royalty from the use of their application on tablet, it will be simply a money spinner. Mr Tuli was speaking at the Entrepreneurial Summit, which was organized by the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow.
It is to be noted here, that even before its launch, the tablet (priced at only Rs 3000) which will run on the Google’s Android operating system (version 2.2) is an instant hit among the students. With 3 lakh pre sale bookings, it is being edged as the next big thing in the arena of technology. Also, Ubislate is expected to be coupled with a data plan worth Rs 99, hence making the use of internet fairly simple for students.
