Djokovic Triumphs At The Final Of Australian Open
Novak Djokovic is performing magnificently in the tennis world. Whenever he is on court he displays lots of enthusiasm. The same thing he did on Sunday night when he played in the Australian Open final.
Djokovic scored a superb 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-7 (5), 7-5 win against Rafael Nadal to become the Australian Open champion. This match was played for an astonishing 5 hours and 53 minutes. The tough contest finally came to an end at 1:37am on the Monday morning at Melbourne.
The Serbian player fought back from break during fifth set and responded strongly. He won his 5th Grand Slam event. This was also his third consecutive one.
But, this was the special one. This one had sweat, tears, and little blood as well. The longest singles final of Grand Slam in the pro tennis history involved lots of killer instinct from both players. Earlier Nadal had the reputation to defeat opponents in such matches.
Djokovic remarked, “It was obvious on the court for everybody who has watched the match that both of us, physically, we took the last drop of energy that we had from our bodies. We made history tonight and unfortunately there couldn’t be two winners.”
The match witnessed many long rallies as well as amazing gets. Champion Djokovic had 57 winners, against 69 unforced errors. Runner up Nadal finished the match with 44 winners along with 71 unforced errors.
