Researchers have found out 2 drugs that they believe would be helpful in treatment of breast cancer by delaying its progression.

Drugs, named as pertuzumab from Genentech and everolimus from Novartis, exhibited that it can prolong the progression if disease. This is definitely good news and a new hope for women suffering from this deadly disease.

In a symposium held at San Antonio, results of this study were presented. This was also promulgated in the journal New England of medicine.

“We have an improvement in progression-free survival that is six months,” Dr. José Baselga, chief of hematology and oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital, said in an interview. “That’s huge. By any criteria we want to analyze, this is clinically meaningful.”

Dr. Baselga who works as a consultant for Novartis and Genentech, worked as a principal investigator in this research.

Some days back, Genentech has taken permission to market the drug in US. Sometimes back, its drug , Avastin, was denied approval. So, this approval will help out the company overcome that.

Though further research may be required in breast cancer treatment, if these drugs are well worked out, it can help several women who are under the grip of this deadly monster.
