Eating Disorder In Males On Rise

Eating-Disorder

According to a survey, eating disorder in men is on rise, consequently there are 60 percent more admissions in hospitals. Around one million people in Britain are suffering from eating problems in Britain and around 20 percent of them are males.

“That, coupled with the fact that not all GPs (General Practitioners) recognize the symptoms in males shows that there are still many people unable to access the treatment they so desperately need.”

Officially, there are three categories of eating problems- bulimia nervosa, anorexia nervosa and the unspecified category. Usually,  eating disorder begins at a teenage though chances of it more in adulthood.

Moreover, exact figures are difficult to judge because men are often reluctant to go to doctors. They avoid their problems. Sometimes, people are unable to access the facilities despite they are in dire need. This aggravates the problem more.
