Egyptian Travel Ban On Foreign Based NGO Staffs

The Egypt director of the International Republic Institute (IRI) and the son of US Transportation Secretary Sam LaHood was refused to travel out of Egypt.

When he was trying to leave the Middle East country through Cairo Airport last week, he learned about these ban. Travel ban is another reason that is likely to create many new political tensions between America and one of its most powerful Middle East Allies, Egypt.

This ban covers at least 10 America and Europe based NGO staffs. Political thinkers are assuming that this ban is planned to campaign of intimidation of the issue that the Egyptian Government is accused of paying wage against the civil society of Egypt.

Egyptian Travel Ban
Sam was first denied to travel out of Egypt and then he was escorted out the airport by man clothed in civilian’s dress.

The NGO and Human Rights Thinkers guessed that it’s something very bad when a State government impose such ban on the natural flow of work for development and present them in front of judges for questioning.

Egyptian Police raided last month in the headquarters of these NGOs and bring in people for questioning.

Though the motive of this government steps are still shrouded in mystery, liberal thinkers are not viewing it as good an action on part of the Government.

Every US and Europe based NGO are under this ban. They can’t departure from the state of Pyramid. Even this includes the National Democratic Institute and Freedom House. Both are US based NGOs and workers for Egyptian Civil Organization.

The biggest slap on the face of America is the denial for travel for the most renowned US-based NGO IRI and to the son of the US Transportation Secretary, Mr. Sam LaHood. It’s now a wait and watch situation for everyone to see how the US reacts on it along with the UN.
