Emperor Penguin Recovering Fast

emperor penguin Recovering fast

The Emperor Penguin is the tallest and heaviest of all living penguin species adapted in Antarctica. Both the male and female species range between 22 and 45 kg and reaches up-to 48 inches in height.

One such penguin is undergoing a medical operation in New Zealand. ‘Happy Feet’, the emperor penguin, was found on a New Zealand beach in an injured condition. The surgery was successful and the bird is recovering at a good pace.

The young emperor penguin was found approx 4000 kilometers away from home on Peka Peka beach in Kapiti. The bird had undergone an endoscopy to find the real reason of sickness.

After the surgery the bird was taken to wellington zoo where this 27 kg bird is staying well in a temperature controlled room, on a bed full with ice.

The operation of bird was carried out by a well known surgeon of wellington who was also assisted by other surgeons too. It took an approx of three hours for the team to extract out 1200ml of fluid and stuff like sand and sticks from its stomach.

According to the official statement from the wellington “the penguin was ‘bright’ but remained in a critical condition”. The statement also stated about Dr John Wyeth who did the birds training and royal free hospital London helped in the procedure of operation.

So far the operation is successful but if Happy Feet goes through another difficult operation, penguin experts will prefer taking the bird back to their natural home.
