Gavaskar Compares Tendulkar’s Achievement To Beamon’s Fea

Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar has compared the Sachin Tendulkar’s achievement of reaching 50 centuries in test cricket to Bob Beamon’s long jump performance at the Mexico Olympics in 1968. The America’s long jumper set a record at that time that remained for a period of 23 years.

Gavaskar said, “Well, it’s such a record that you can only compare it with Bob Beamon’s long-jump world record set in the 1968 Olympics in Mexico. At that time it seemed that it would never be broken. Tendulkar’s 50 Test centuries is one such record which doesn’t look like being surpassed.” Gavaskar believes that only Australian skipper Ricky Ponting among the present lot of cricketers has a chance to get near to this feat. He added, “Ponting is a couple of years younger and if he can hit a purple patch like him, one never knows. Still 11 Test centuries is not easy. You have to score in every third Test match you play.” Gavaskar feels that Tendulkar has the ability to change his style of game according to the demand of the situation. He gave a technical answer for the latter’s fantastic form recently. He believes the master blaster is not opening the left shoulder now while facing the bowlers.
