Google Bags The US Patent Involving Technology For Driverless Cars

Google has succeeded in getting the US patent for the technology that is involved in a driverless car. The rights involve the methodology used in converting the vehicle from a human controlled mode to an automatic one.

It also includes how the car will decide upon taking control and know about its actual position and the direction in which it should go.

The technology can be used to cater to the needs of the tourist locations and even to send problem vehicles to the repair shops. The engineers involved in the project have said that since the robots can respond faster than the humans, this would result in decreasing the number of road accidents to a large extent.

Also, this would mean that the vehicles can drive more closely and hence can result in increasing the road capacity in the future.

The recent years have seen a fleet of such driverless cars being tested by Google. These vehicles combine the various features like artificial intelligence, a variety of sensors, video cameras and Google’s street view maps.

The patent is a win-win situation for Google as now no other company can use the same technology for switching between different modes. And in case any company wants to use this technique, then Google can charge them.

Google is very optimistic about the whole scenario as they believe that the technology is here to stay and will be very popular in the near future.
