The US expert’s states if everyone maintain a healthy weight, normal blood pressure and leave tobacco, and then it is possible that 57% of Atrial Fibrillation cases can be averted.

The study in Circulation journal is based on about 15,000 patients. The major cause of stroke is AF. But several people are not aware of having this heart condition as often very few symptoms are seen.

According to experts, nearly 500,000 people in UK have AF problem. It can be treated with effective medication, as to slow down the irregular heartbeat and blood-thinning to reduce stroke risk. But the latest research shows that illness can be avoided by living a simple lifestyle.

Dr Alvaro Alonso, who led the research at the University Of Minnesota School Of Public Health, said it is known that a significant proportion of Atrial Fibrillation cases can be avoided by simple life lifestyle. Thus if individuals maintain a normal blood pressure, healthy weight and don’t smoke then they would not only reduce the risk of other forms of cardiovascular disease, but will also reduce the risk of developing Atrial Fibrillation.
