Where Is Hungary Heading To?
What is cooking up in Hungary these daysis a major concern for the European Union in particular and for the world in general. It is going through an unfortunate series of political reforms. It has sparked deep unrest.

The parliament is overwhelmingly supporting the constitutional changes. Prime Minister Viktor Orban is enjoying support from even the far Right Jobbik party.
His Federation of Young Democrats and Christian Democrat People’s Party (Fidesz-KDNP) combine has secured two-third majority in the parliament.
What are these political reforms about? These are sweeping changes in constitution that will affect the overall democratic fabric of the society in the country.
One can easily judge the fascist undertones of the reforms. The reforms fall in line with the ideas of the Prime Minster that republic is just a cover for the nation.
The new preamble of constitution reads about spiritual and intellectual unity of the country. The over emphasis on these elements over the democratic and republican set up must stink to anyone.
There is another facet of the reforms that brings judiciary more and more under the clutches of the politicians. Even the new constitution gives the right to the lawyers to choose the judges for their hearing.
Notably, the supporting streams in the parliament have been responsible for murders based on ethnic identities in recent years. The reforms are under overwhelming criticism from the US authorities as well as the EU authorities.
But the majority in the parliament gives the rulers a boost so they are even refraining successfully from facing criticism from across the world.
The only ray of hope lies in the protesting masses of the country. They are in great numbers on street. The world needs to rely on them and support them the way it can.
