Colombo: In the first innings on fourth day of the second Test match at Colombo Captain Mahender Singh Dhoni took control of the game after Tendulkar’s dismissal as India walks past Sri Lankan mammoth total of 642 runs.
When Tendulkar and Harbhajan departed, Dhoni was batting on 52. He constructed a frustrating eight wicket partnership of 51 runs with Abhimanyu Mithun which took India past 600 runs.
In test cricket this is only the third time when a team batting second has surpassed a first innings score of more than 600 runs. A feat hardly imaginable on this pitch, Tilakratne Dilshan picket two wickets in an over, to pull back Sri Lanka in a match which is moving towards a draw. On fourth day of Colombo Test to guide India out of any danger against Sri Lanka Sachin Tendulkar notched his 5th Test double hundred. Sachin made a partnership of 256 runs along with Suresh Raina and partnership of 92 runs along with Mahender Singh Dhoni. In the testing humid conditions at Colombo Tendulkar’s innings comprised of firm determination and solid control.
After making a brilliant 120 runs on debut Raina chipped a ball to Sangakara’s hands at short mid-wicket. In the morning session without losing a wicket Sachin Tendulkar and Suresh Raina helped India avoid follow-on as they added 95 runs. Suresh Raina became the only Indian batsman after Virender Sehwag to score century on Test debut. Sachin Tendulkar equalled Lara as the batsman with most scores of 150-plus and surpassed Don Bradman’s 18 scores of 150 – plus.[/private]
