Intel Ready To Take on Smartphones after PC’s

The company is all set to show off its all new mobile SoC (System on a chip) named Medfield. They have also created some reference designs of Smartphones and the tablets that will support its SoC (which will be atom branded) running on the Android OS by Google.

The company is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that the telecom giants like Samsung, Apple and HTC prefer their chips to the ARM processors. For the same purpose a technology preview was also given by the company.

It is said that the best part in Intel latest offering is that it will consume less power. Also unlike the earlier generations of Atom SoCs, Medfield is housed on a single Silicon chip.

Apart from this Medfield is optimized for use on Android (unlike the earlier atom chips that favored Meggo). All these factors together point towards the fact that ARM is going to face a tough competitor in the form of Medfield.

It is to be noted here that the major benefits with the ARM based processors is that it draws very less power. Also the designers have this ability to optimize these ARM based processors according to the various software platforms.

Though the Medfield seems to be quite promising but it would be interesting to see whether it will serve as Intel’s answer to the ARM processors.
