Irene Leads To The Worst Flooding In Vermont In Last 83 Years

WATERBURY: Vermont became grossly muddy due to flooding as the weekend witnessed 15 inches of rain. It is said that it is the worst situation for the state due to weather reasons in last 83 years. Irene is the root cause behind the flood.
“We’ve heard reports of houses and cars washing away,” hydrologist at National weather Service Hanson said. “We’re keeping our fingers crossed all those were empty.”
So far three people have been reported dead. Among the deceased is a 20 years old lady and the Rutland’s water treatment plant supervisor Michael Garofano. The supervisor aged 55 was with son, 25. He had gone to check the water supply. The son is still missing. The 20 years old lady was in her car when it was taken away by the running waters.
More than two hundred roads have been washed out as are the three bridges.
Nearly ten percent of the population is living without any electric supply at present and it is supposed to live so for the coming week.
“In many places, we can’t even get to the damage,” said Central Vermont Public Service (CVPS) (CVPS) Vice President Joe Kraus said.
