Jonty Rhodes To Assist Kenyan Team Prior To The World Cup
Former South Africa player Jonty Rhodes will be working as a consultant to the Kenyan team to help them prepare for the coming World Cup, officials from Kenyan cricket confirmed this on Friday.
Rhodes, who gained huge popularity in his playing days because of his excellent fielding, will be assisting Eldine Baptiste, Coach of Kenya, in a training camp of three weeks in Pretoria scheduled to be held next month.
Tom Sears, chief executive officer of Cricket Kenya, said, “He will use his expertise in batting and fielding, particularly in one day cricket, to hone the squad’s skills in this areas.”
He also said, “Jonty has tremendous experience and is now one of the most innovative and highly sought after specialist coaches in World cricket so this is a real coup for Cricket Kenya.”
Rhodes retired from cricket in 2003. After that he improved the fielding of South African team as a member of coaching staff. Sears is very delighted to have Rhodes to help them before the crucial World Cup 2011 to be jointly hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
