Manchester United and Barcelona face each other in the final of Champions League at Wembley to be held on Saturday. The English and Spanish league champions will fight to lift this trophy for fourth time.

United won this title for the first time in 1968 when they defeated Benfica. They were the first English side to win this trophy. Barca defeated Sampdoria in 1992 and became champions for the first time.

United again won this event in 1999 as well as 2008. Barcelona became victorious in 2006 and 2009. Blaugrana won 2-0 against United in the final at Rome in 2009.

There are no favorites in this game as both the teams are equally balanced. Barcelona are known for their superb passing in the midfield and deadly finishing by ace Lionel Messi. The 23 years old player has scored 52 goals from all competitions in this season.

United had defeated the Spaniards at the semifinals of this event in 2008. This time they will depend on the caliber of striker Wayne Rooney. Mexican Javier Hernandez is a promising youngster who is consistently performing well. United would be hoping that their retiring 40 years old Edin van der Sar, goalkeeper, uses all his experience to keep the clean sheet during the final match of his career.

Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola insisted his team would have to perform better than what they did in 2009 to win this time. He believes the team has to enhance their game for good display.

Guardiola remarked, “It’s very strange to say that and I’m happy to have won, but let’s be honest, we have to play much better than in 2009 to win. We have to play much quicker. In terms of intensity and a few other things, they weren’t quite as good as we would have liked.”

He pointed he has told his players in these days repeatedly that if they play now like in Rome they would not get victory this time.

The 40 years old Coach also praised Sir Alex’s team. He added, “I am worried about everything about Manchester United. They have fantastic, powerful players and are as good as we are.”

Guardiola rates United as an historic side. He feels the opponents are a complete team in all respects. He emphasized Barcelona needs to play great soccer to win.
