Mandela Recovering After Respiratory Infection

Former South African President Nelson Mandela has been released from the city hospital after spending two nights due to respiratory infection. According to doctors, he responded well to the treatment and his condition is stable.
The 92-year old is still under observation by medical staff at his home in Johannesburg.
Mr. Mandela spent 27 years as a political prisoner but emerged as country’s first black president and led to the process of reconciliation. He was diagnosed with tuberculosis in 1988 while he was in Robben Island jail and was also infected with respiratory problem eight years ago.
Despite being in critical condition Mandela joked with hospital staff and visitors.
Dr. Vejaynand Ramlakan, the head of military doctors and assigned to care of Mr. Mandela said, “His amazing positive attitude allows him to cope with the difficulties of old age with the greatest of grace.”
