Mercedes Launched New SLS AMG Roadster

A new coupe is ready to be launched, “Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster”, it will join the gull-wing coupe model in the Mercedes line-up later this year. The company confirmed launch of new coupe at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. But doesn’t worry booking at UK dealers will actually start from next month, prior to its UK launch in November.

Yet, company has not confirmed price of the coupe but expectation of its price of around £175,000. This could be one of the most expensive soft-top cars on sale.

The new coupe has powerful 6.3-liter AMG V8, 571hp engine and luckily it is one of the fastest that can reach from 0-60 mph in 3.8 sec and can exceed 196mph by an electronic speed limiter. The company is claiming performance comparable with the gull-wing; both key performance figures are absolutely identical.

To achieve this performance parity used various techniques such as weight-optimised soft top that uses magnesium, steel and aluminum in its constriction. As such, Mercedes is also claiming a low center of gravity.

In just 11 seconds it can be fold in a space-saving Z configuration and it will be available in three different colors Beige, Red and Black. This complements nine exterior and eight interior color schemes.

The Coupe has new AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with electronically controlled damping is available as an option. It enables the damping characteristics to be modified at the touch of a button.

The boot is, at 173 liters, only three liter smaller than the Mercedes SLS AMG Coupe, but still it remains similar size both open and closed.

One another impressive fact, it can be operated at speeds of up to 30mph.

It will be available in three different modes “Comfort”, “Sport” and “Sport plus”. “AMG Performance Media”, a new multimedia system, shows numerous telemetric displays such as lateral and linear acceleration, various engine data and lap times on a racetrack, and also features high-speed mobile Internet access.

Mercedes has reinforced the body shell to compensate for the lack of a roof. The coupe offers thicker and more chambers with side skirts plus there are additional struts to support the dashboard cross member.

Behind the front seats, there is a reinforcing cross member also. Mercedes engineers crafted this coupe with the space frame weighs 243kg – just 2kg more than the gull-wing Coupe. And its overall weight is up just 40kg.

It has additional conventional doors which is most obvious change with frame less side glass, instead of the gull-wing doors of the Coupe. Else you will hardly notice the difference to the popular ne SLS AMG and surely it will equally idolize when it arrives in the UK this winter.
