Michigan Governors Ideas For Reform Are Deep Rooted

Michigan Governor Rick Snyder behaved somewhat odd when he wanted to change the Detroit Public School system. He was bold enough to declare his intentions. He has sought help but rather he might have to entertain criticism.

The field of education is intended to give the new generation the account of what has over the years been discovered new. But it is often the case that education systems are themselves stuck to the patterns and resist a change. The excuses and pretexts are always there for the masters of the sector.

It is not a new idea for the Governor though it is for many in the field of education. For him he was seeking a change for long and he had shared his views with the people in the field of education as early as when he was running for the post of Governor.

What he has exactly proposed is that the EMU should coordinate with the DPS under the new authority over the issue of teaching and training the teachers. The proposed new authority will be called Education Achieving Agency.

His plans were fast-tracked when he was lucky to get an enthusiastic nod from Roy Roberts when the latter was named for the emergency manager on May 4.

The plan is yet to be worked out in detail. It would need some legal approvals as the issue involves another agency.

Maybe the bold steps may bring the failing Michigan schools on the track. The plan envisages starting with some 30 plus schools.
