Morning Heart Attacks Are More Severe

According to researchers, morning heart attacks are more risky as compared to any other time of the day. Heart attacks between 6 am and midday cause 20 percent more injury to muscles of heart.

According to medical professionals, it may be because of changes in hormones, blood pressure and metabolism rates that usually occur in morning when a person gets up.

Though it was established in previous studies also that heart attacks are more likely to occur in morning but new research has emphasized that morning heart attacks are more severe also.

Scientists from National Center of Cardiovascular Research in Madrid analyzed 811 patients who suffered attacks between 2003 and 2009. All of them had a specific type of attack, ST segment elevation myocardial infarction, which is caused by long phase of blocked supply of blood.

Researchers measured some enzymes including Kinase and Troponin-I to measure the severity of attacks. They found that morning attacks caused 21 percent more damage compared to the attacks of later day.

Though doctors are not very much clear about the reasons behind this phenomenon, natural changes in the body in morning are being supposed to be a reason for that.

‘This study provides some interesting observations. However further research is needed’, said Judy O’ Sullivan, senior cardiac nurse at British Heart Foundation.
