Obama Initiates Extra $50 Million To Fight Against AIDS
On Thursday, Barack Obama declared in an event of World AIDS day that an extra $50 million will be added on the medical treatment of AIDS in United States.
He said “We are going to win this fight,” and added “But the fight’s not over, not by a long shot.”
As per him, US will help other countries as well to fight against the disease. They have targeted to help around 6 million patients till 2013.
Obama said that next year US will host a conference on World AIDS and remove the ban of entering HIV positive people to the country.
He said “We can beat this disease,” Previous Presidents Bill Clinton and George Bush also participated in the event through satellite. It was organized after 30 years when HIV was discovered first. Bush stated that efforts should be made to stop spreading the virus.
Clinton said the cost of different anti-retroviral medications needs to be reduced in rural areas, mainly in those regions where the virus is more effective.
According to a report of U.N. around 22.9 million patients are suffering from HIV in Sub-Saharan Africa. And half of 4.8 million people in Asia having HIV live in India.
In US, around 1.2 million people have HIV, which turns out to be 50,000 Americans infected with AIDS each year as per a statement in While House. Over 600,000 US citizens have died since the virus was detected.
