People With High Metabolism May Live Shorter

As per a recent study people with fast metabolism may die early compared to those who burn calories at a slower rate. The findings are based on a study done on more than 600 volunteers. It says that an increased metabolic rate speeds up the aging process, reported by Daily Mail.
Earlier experiments in animals have shown the link between long life and metabolic rate. But in case of human there has been little evidence to suggest so. In Arizona American researchers have compared the metabolic rate and life span of 652 healthy ‘Pima indians’ over a period of 21 years.
As per British news paper the scientists, from National Institutes of health, did an experiment to measure how volunteers body over 24 hours convert food into energy. They also measured their metabolic rate during rest as how much energy body uses to keep the heart and lungs working.
In a report in Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, people with higher metabolic rate tend to die earlier. Reiner Jumpertz a Researcher said. “We found that higher endogenous metabolic rate which is how much energy the body uses for normal body functions? is a risk factor for earlier mortality. This increased metabolic rate may lead to earlier organ damage.” But these findings are not applied on energy burnt by exercise and this activity is beneficial for health.
