Permanent Limewire Shut Down After Inspection Of Court
One of the most popular file sharing program website ‘LimeWire’ has been completely shut down. After a long four year legal battle with US music industry, federal judge found it at fault committing copyright infringement “on a massive scale.” and ordered to shut down its services.
In New York, a federal court issued a ‘permanent injunction’ against LimeWire LLC by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) over four years ago. The platform intentionally caused a “massive scale of infringement” by permitting the sharing of thousands of copyrighted works by its 50 million monthly users.
Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) filed law suit on behalf of eight major music publishers in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. According to the suit, LimeWire was facilitating pervasive online infringement. Further accusation was made that the LimeWire actively encouraged users to take part in the music piracy.
During the proceedings of the court, the plaintiffs claimed that more than 93% of the software traffic was composed of infringed content.
In May, 2010, the federal judge Kimba Wood found the LimeWire LCC guilty for the copyright infringement. Apart from this, she found LimeWire founder Mark Gordon personally responsible for this. The two separate motions by the RIAA in this case were:
The first reason was the permanent shut down of the company.
The second reason was the freezing of the assets of the company.

The legal notice that was put on the website of the company read as follows:
“The official notice says that the LimeWire is under the injunction of court order. It has been warned to stop distributing and supporting its file sharing software. Apart from this, download or sharing of the copyright content without authorization is not considered as per the law”.
The infringement further states :
LimeWire software is used overwhelmingly for infringement and allows breach on a massive scale. It further states:
“LimeWire knowingly encouraged direct infringement. The napster users were known copyright infringers. They promoted the LimeWire infringement capabilities”.
In the year 2011 exactly in the month of January, the case will be resumed and the damages will be assessed. The statuary minimum for the music copyright infringement is one lac fifty thousand dollar per infringement. The total damage access was up to an amount of 1 billion dollar. LimeWire CEO George Searle said that the company is not happy with the turn of events.
He further said :
He is very much committed for working with the music industry. This has made the act of loving music more fulfilling.
Legal notice on LimeWire warns users of injunction
LimeWire is one of the most reputed peer to peer file sharing websites in the world. LimeWire shut down has taken place after the 4 year legal battle with the music industry of US.
LimeWire was found in the year 2000 by mark Gorton who is a former Wall Street trader. This website is now restricted to allow the search and share of the copyright content.
As per the LimeWire spokesman:
LimeWire will continue to work with music industry and will make it move forward.
As per the statement of the US judge Kimba Wood :
According to the statement of the US judge Kimba Wood, He ruled out that the record companies have suffered and will continue to suffer. This has caused irreparable harm as far as the inducement of LimeWire widespread infringement of works. The potential damages were awful.
The court further said, it should use all the all reasonable technological means to immediately cease and desist.
As per the RIAA figures:
The RIAA figures: The recorded music sales in US have fallen from $7.7bn in 2009 from $14.5bn in 1999. Peer to peer file sharing network is singled out as prominent factor for decline.
The NDP group on response said, LimeWire was used by 58 percent of the people who downloaded music from peer to peer network. This happened in the year 2009 in the month of May.
“The report said, “The court has now signed an injunction that will start to unwind the massive piracy machine that LimeWire and Gorton used to enrich themselves immensely. “In January, the court will conduct a trial to determine the appropriate level of damages necessary to compensate the record companies for the billions and billions of illegal downloads that occurred through the LimeWire system.”

Illegal practice comes to an end
yes, I downloaded that too, and am happy with the music experience I am getting from its version 9 software assisting in downloading.
Technically, burning a CD of music is unlawful, but it’s not like
empty CDs and CD burners are forbidden.
What the court did was the need of hours as it is impossible to
ban this software as it is getting enormous consumer support. It would
be great help to those artists who tries hard to make you hear those
songs.
Now if they were to sell illegally downloaded music, that’s
another thing, but file sharing could even be compared to having your
friend come over and listen to the CD you bought.
The court’s order has facilitated other music sharing software.
I am going for some other alternate, come and follow me. I will
give you the name, enjoy the service without any disruption.
huh, who cares ??? we have another alternative “frostwire” yay!!!
Who knows when court will ban frostwire too !! but anyways, I think for music industries, this was the great news!!
The court’s order has facilitated other music sharing software
Why don’t music lover challenges the court’s order. We should
approach further.
Everything was good with limewire except your PC would turn out
to be a idiot box slow as tortoise.
Dude, bearshare is legal and am already BIG FAN of this software.
Why don’t music lover challenges the court’s order. We should
approach further.
Now it is up to you, welcome the order or oppose it.
The order of court should be welcomed as the interface makes you feel like you are trying to use a complex app in a modern world which was full of Trojans and other viruses. This was sure to slow down your PC.
Now let us figure out the consequences, because music lover are
same and they love to get things free.
I think the law wins whatever the problem arises with limewire shut down. It may take time but justice is the final victory. The court is doing its duty and things will be finalized after complete inspection.
The site when functioning saved me perhaps over 100 bucks,
really a wonderful site but the only hindrance was virus. I don’t know
the exact reason behind the banning but it’s good for music
industries.
