New Plants For Volvo Cars In China

Volvo Car Corporation owned by the Zhejiang Geely Holding Group said it would consider a second car manufacturing plant in Daqing, China, in addition to the one the company had already planned for Chengdu.

Stefan Jacoby, president and CEO said “We regard the Chinese market as the second home market and a very important part of the plan to build a successful future for the company,” his views were supported by Chairman Li Shufu who said “We have developed a solid plan for future growth in the strategically important Chinese market.”

The company’s new headquarters in Shanghai and a technology centre will play an important role in all functions related to purchasing, design, sales and marketing, manufacturing and finance. The company is targeting a sales volume of about 200,000 cars in the Chinese market by 2015.

The expansion in China will not affect operations and employment in Europe and the site’s main aim will be to manufacture Volvo cars to meet the demands of the Chinese market.
