Preeja Bags Gold Medal In 10,000 Meters

Preeja Sreedharan shined for India in athletics at the Asian Games in Guangzhou by bagging the gold medal in 10000 meters women’s category race held on Sunday. Kavita Raut also did India proud by winning the silver medal.

It was the first day of the athletics events at the games. Preeja finished the race with a timing of 31:50.47 which was her personal best. This was the second gold on the day for India.

Kavita finished the race with a timing of 31:51.44 which was also her best effort. Shitay Habtegebrel recorded a timing of 31:53.27 to bag the bronze medal.

Earlier in the day, Sudha Singh did extremely well for India by winning the gold medal in 3000 m steeplechase event for women. She clocked a timing of 9:55.67 sec. She was given a good fight till the last moment by Yuan Jin of China. In the end, Jin had to remain satisfied with a silver medal by clocking 9:55.71.
