Researchers Culture Locust Cells To Understand Human Brain Functioning
According to neurologists, there is need to maintain delicate pressure balance on a given part of the human brain. There should be an optimum force to hold the neurons together and working as one system inside the body. This tension is important for the proper functioning of the nerves. According to the scientists from Tel Aviv University, this pressure is even more important than what has been said above.
Prof. Amir Ayali from he Department of Zoology of the mentioned institution in collaboration with Prof. Yael Hanein from the School of Electrical Engineering and Prof Eshel Ben-Jacob of the Department of Physics, cultured cells of desert locust to better understand the functioning of the nervous system of the mammals.
The latest finding of Prof. Ayali et al is that the pressure applied on the neurons plays a vital role in the development as well as working of the human brain. The findings of the study has been recently published in various journals including Biophysical Journal and Nanotechnology.
When a neuron develops, it goes and gets attached to another neuron. The latter pulls it to the appropriate part in the neurosystem. Prof. Ayali says, “This tension is crucial for making the right connections.”
