Roberto Mancini Backs His Decision To Rest Senior Players Despite Loss

Roberto Mancini, manager of Manchester City, has backed his decision to rest senior players in the game versus West Bromwich Albion played on Wednesday. Manchester City lost this game with a score of 2-1 and can not go further in the League Cup because of this defeat.
Striker Jo scored a goal in the first half and Manchester City were ahead by the half time. The home team bounced back in the match in the next half by scoring two goals. Simon Cox and Gianni Zuiverloon were the goal scorers for them. West Brom qualifies for the further stage of the event because of this victory.
Manchester City plays versus Chelsea in Premier League match on Saturday. Mancini believes his key players need rest for that clash.
Mancini said, “I don’t regret making the changes. If I had more players available it would be a different team. But when you play like us and Chelsea, on Saturday at 12.45, the time to recover is very short.”
He added, “Saturday is more important, the FA Cup is more important. The Europa League is more important. I did not regard this as a necessary sacrifice. We wanted to win. That is why I had four senior players on the bench.”
He feels it was an excellent opportunity for the youngsters to display their talent although they lost the match. He remarked, “I am happy with these guys. We might have lost the game but they can improve. If they do not play tonight, when will they ever play?”
