Teenagers Benefit From Blog Therapy
It has been most viewed trend that overtly emotional teenagers felt relieved when they poured out everything to their “Dear Friend Diary”. In this age teenagers are really concerned about extra fat, unreciprocated love, petty fights and more such trivial matters. And, when they have told (written) everything in their diary, they were on a normal side.
Whether it is a teenage girl or boy, diary keeping has been for long of a therapeutic value. As per a recent study, if these sad teenagers write their despair in a blog form, it is of more value. And, on this basis it is said that blogs are of great importance for your health.
According to a research done by Azy Barak and Meyran Boniel-Nissim, psychology professor of the University of Haifa, Israel, indulging in online social networking in community through blogging was increasingly effective in pulling out the writer from public agony. It was much preferred and working as compared to private diary keeping. This research was published in Psychological Services journal.
The researchers aimed at keeping track of experience, teenagers had with blogging. The people who conducted the study indiscriminately took a survey of Israel’s students of high school. And, chose 161 from them (37 boys and 124 girls).
These selected students were the ones who demonstrated certain level of stress and social anxiety. Average age of these teenagers was 15 years. They confessed having problems in remaining in contact with their friends and making new ones.
Same was with the internet. 6 groups of teenagers were made among which initial two were made to write a blog on the social difficulties they had to face. And, 1 group in from this was made to open their blogs for comments.

After that, next 2 groups were made to write about whatever they daydreamt in their adolescent age. And, same as above 1 blog was open for comments. Every group was made to write in their blogs, 2 times in 1 week. The remaining 2 groups were the control and were made to maintain a diary or do nothing.
The 4 psychologists delved deep into the blogs and thoroughly studied the blogs to know the related emotional and mental condition of the writer. Among all the groups, much relieved in terms of emotional and mental state were the writers who had written about their agony and permitted comments on their write-ups.
Much to surprise, people who commented on the blogs were awesomely sympathetic. According to Dr. Barak via e-mail, “The only kind of surprise we had was that almost all comments made by readers were very positive and constructive in trying to offer support for distressed bloggers”.
The results might also be beneficial to the real virtual world also. Royar Loflin, NorFolk,Va, 17 years blogger, was not a part of the study. She commented, “I definitely write posts in which I talk about being overwhelmed, and it helps me to relax.” Her blog “My Life as a Young Southern Prep” has everything from book reviews to fashion. And, she also pens down her junior year stress.
According to her, ““People will write in the comments, ‘I remember when I was in your shoes’ ” and ‘Don’t worry — you’ll get through the SATs!’ and it’s wonderful”. “It really helps put everything into perspective.”
