Teeth Can Be Used To Repair Damaged Spines
This is good news for medical perspective. Now teeth can be used for treatment related to spinal injuries.
Scientists have tried this treatment on rats by inserting dental pulps. Those rats who were having broken legs exhibited legs movement.
It seems that these dental pulp prevented break down of nerve cells and at the same time stimulated the growth of other cells.
This study was conducted by the team at University of Nagoya, Japan. Scientists hope that it will revolutionize the treatment.
Dr Mark Bacon, research director at the charity Spinal Research, said: “Certainly, within the context of spinal cord injuries, this is a relatively new and under-studied source of stem cells which appears to show remarkably promising results.”
From wisdom teeth, stem cells can be fetched without causing any adverse effect. Still, some ethical concerns are always there with stem cells.
Though this cure has been identified, it may take long time and further research to put into practice quite well.
