Viral Epidemic in South Korea

The agriculture minister of South Korea told CNN that it is the worst foot and mouth epidemic that had ever happened. And it could cost the country $1.4 billion. So far more than two million animals have been killed.

According to the ministry of agriculture, food, fisheries and forestry from 129 confirmed cases the country has already lost millions of dollars in exports. Nearly up to 22% of swine population and 4% of cattle is being culled. The government is trying to control the number of animals that needs to be destroyed, so vaccination is going on across the country.

Due to the epidemic the government has put travel restriction for live stocks and asked the cattle market to shut for sometime. As a result beef and pork import is increasing and their retail price has gone higher by 9% in just few days.

In South Korea bird flu is also rising, till now almost 4 million have been culled. According to the US department of agriculture foot and mouth disease is a severe and highly contagious viral disease of cattle and swine. So through vaccine government is trying to control the disease.
