Weapons Prove Role of Iran in Military Installations In Iraq: US

Mideast Iraq Violence

Bagdad : Militia in Iraq use sophisticated weapons to target military installations and US troops in Iraq. This has been reported by senior officials of US. James Jeffery, US ambassador to Iraq said there was fresh forensic test for weapons. These were used for deadly attacks in country.

This increases assertions that Iran supports insurgents in Iraq with training of new weapons. In an interview, Jeffery said, “We’re not talking about a smoking pistol. There is no doubt this is Iranian.”

He further said, “We’re seeing more lethal weapons, more accurate weapons, more longer-range weapons.”
He added, “And we’re seeing more sophisticated mobile and other deployment options, and we’re seeing better-trained people.”

Insurgents did not make efforts to remove weapon identification numbers. They suggested these weapons came from Iran. Jeffery said, “which in itself is troubling.”

In the current weeks, officials of US military and Jeffery have blamed sheite militia groups Kataib Hezbollah, Ahl al-Haq and Promised Day Brigad. This violent wave is considered bloodiest in past two years. The groups are trained and supplied by special forces of Iranian revolutionary guard. The special agents of Iran crossed into Iraq for materials and training.

Jeffery provided complete information about forensic testing. It was after Gen. Lloyd Austin, general commanding of US forces in Iraq declined to do it.  Austin said about weapons, “are coming in from Iran, we’re certain of that.”

On Tuesday, Austin and Jeffery travelled to south port city located in Basra for opening of new US consulate. Earlier , the US officials have accused Iran of supporting Iraqi insurgents, training  and providing  them weapons. Specific evidence regarding this came in may 2009.
