World’s First Human-Powered Aircraft

Since the beginning of human history people wanted to fly like a birds by flapping the wings. After centuries now a human powered aircraft has been developed. The first human powered aircraft called ‘Snowbird’. The amazing aircraft has been developed by aerospace engineering doctoral student Todd Reichert of the University of Toronto, who powered the aircraft and pilot ed.

Leonardo Da Vinci first envisioned a machine which can fly with flapping wings and powered by human, and after half a millennium the Snowbird invented.

The Snowbird flew for 19.3 seconds, covered 475 feet and maintained altitude and airspeed with 15.9mph on 2 August.

The Snowbird has wingspan of 105 feet which comparable to Boeing 737 and its weight 94 pounds which is less than all of the pillows onboard a Boeing 737. The aircraft’s primary structure made of carbon fiber tubes and the rest part made of with balsa wood, basswood and foam. The combination of wingspan and weight is crucial challenge for engineering.

The Snowbird has made aviation history and becomes the world’s first human powered aircraft. The Federation Aeronautique Internationale monitored the aircraft and awarded worlds record in flight. The Snowbird is expected to be confirmed as the new world record holder in the October.
